How hot would a 0* incubator be comfortable to?

I'm on the verge of a big buy and would like to run my plans by you guys.

I'm going to be buying a 20* burrow which I plan on putting inside my 15 Celcius (60*) synthetic bag if I ever get into the snow. This will only really be happening if I take a trip out of state as we don't really get below 5 Celcius in winter. Anyway, I'm quite comfortable with my pad at 10, 5 is a little cold but I can manage so in the interest of pure luxury, I was thinking of getting an UQ, and thought I might as well go for it all in case as I hate to be limited by my gear.

My question to you is, how hot would a 0* Incubator be comfortable? My other option is a 20* UQ, which would probably be perfect for the camping where I am living now, but would limit my choices.

I've used my 0* Incubator in temps as high as 70*.

It required some fiddling, venting, etc. but it worked fine.

I've just done the same and bought a 0* incubator and a 20* burrow. Whilst I've only managed a few hours hanging in the garden, the incubator, without the TQ, felt fine at 60 - 70*. It was warm but ok and I could have easily vented. I wanted a quilt set to cope with everything but the warmest weather and am glad I went for the 0* incubator.

I am using mine in the house full time.. 70 ish.. no problems.. Venting is easy and you won't need a tq-blanket either.. At least at those temps..

The same for me - a matter of venting and I can get it outside in some warm temps (not entirely ideal mind you)!

If you winters don't get much below 5C I would suggest the 20F. That is -7C whereas the 0F is -18C. So I would save a few dollars and a few ounces and go with the 20F. However if you consider yourself a cold sleeper, then go for the 0F. It is a lot easier to vent an underquilt that is too warm that it is to create more warmth from an underquilt that insufficient insulation for you and the temperatures you encounter.

HI Panics, Just noticed your an Aussie. Hi Mate.

I would think a 0°F incubator will be too much for most of your use. (Not quite sure where you are located though)

If the plan is for mostly above freezing stuff and even below just get the 3s incubator with maybe a little overfill. Even that will probably be too much warmth here. If it's forcaste to be heaps colder just add a small torso CCF pad to boost the UQ if required.

I've never owned a FL incubator but have owned 3 full sets of HG quilts now. My 3s set rarely comes out unless it's a snow trip. Had my 2oz overstuffed phoenix to -7°C last year and was still very warm (ie; no where near the quilts limits) These quilts are pretty darn good and the rating isn't a science. Depends on how you sleep now ?? Are you a cold or warm sleeper ??

The 3s might save you some pack space and weight. For 99% of your trips the 0°F incubator might just not be needed.
