I think what Speer offered before was 2nd's, and what he offers now are firsts. You see that kind of price differential between 1st and 2nds in the other vendors.

Hypotheses based on no data whatsoever :

    • Ed's supplier can't produce 2nds in the quantity Ed needs,
    • Ed has gone with 1sts through that supplier to expand the selection of colors (note-used to be only gray. Now you have 3 to choose from),
    • Ed got a batch of 2nds that were so 2nd that he's not risking it anymore.

I've always purchased 2nds from Ed, Questoutfitter, and thru-hiker, and I have yet to see any significant problems with any of it.

Nylon is made from oil. It was just a matter of time before the price increase hit the synthetic textile market. That is why all the prices have gone up.

I figured it was oil related. I just got my roof re-shingled. The prices are going up on those materials too due to the price of oil.

Well, just got home from sewing class. Needless to say I was the only guy in the class. Oh well. They all wanted to learn to sew curtains, pillows, and dresses.

I guess I got a little misinformation on the project. It actually makes sense, though. There were supposed to be 10 of us but there were only 5. However, the instructor said there's still not enough time to work with each person on individual projects. So we're all making pajama pants. However, several have actually shown an interest in doing the tarp project and we should have time to at least get started. I'm going to go ahead and start getting materials.

As for the class I was sewing circles around these ladies. It was fun. I was the teacher's pet showing the others how to thread their machines, handle the bobbin, fix problems. It felt good. I used the school's machine tonight since I was in a hurry and didn't want to take mine down. I can't wait to see what they say when I walk in with my pink machine.

You need to buy and wear this shirt to class.

    On second thought. Maybe not.

    +1 on the t-shirt.

Jaxhiker, a pink machine? I'm cool with the guys using the power thread injector and all, but a pink machine is pushing it.

Thats funny that you were sewing circles around the ladies. Although, me just being able to sew is better than what my wife can currently do.

I've tried to talk her into using (to work on gear ) it but she has no interest. She just rolls her eyes.
