Superfly on the ground

I am trying to accumulate winter gear for a 7 day trip for my three grown son's and I. I was wondering if anyone has pitched the superfly on the ground with trekking poles. If so how? I have not been to where we will be backpacking for 7 nights and need to be sure we have shelter.

You could still pitch the superfly in the standard A frame configuration using trekking poles. If you need doors at either end, just fold the ends in as far as needed. This may reduce the useable space on the ground though as the doors will angle back.

i've been setting up on the ground recently - A-frame style with both my superfly and zpacks 1-ended door tarp.

usually, i stake out the 2 'head end' hex side pullouts, and then the opposite end ridgeline tieout, wrapping it around my fully extended trekking pole, and staking it out. focusing first on at least 2 of the side corner pullouts helps to stabilize the tarp, anchoring it while you prop up the ridgeline with the pole.

then, i get the other ridgeline tensioned in the same way as the first. raising or lowering one of the ridgeline trekking poles gives a nice catenary ridge slope, and helps in foul weather.

lastly, finish off the other 2 corner pullouts, and adjust.

i had to do a lot of adjusting & re-staking the first few times --- but now i have developed a system. practice in the backyard. learning was fun and i'm glad to know i won't be fumbling around in the woods, when it could potentially "count".

I have been testing this setup for a upcoming trip.

Using the trekking poles to make an A-Frame, I have found the height of 5 foot /155 cm to allow the doors to be "almost" closed. However I suspect it will be cramped for two people.

It can also be used in a lean-to setup, giving more space.
