I gotcha. lol. I hated it here growing up, but do have a strong sense of pride now. Mostly from the hate we get from the national sports media due to having the Jags (DUVAL!!!) here. Never the less, would jump at a chance to move to North GA. Somewhere around Cumming. Have family in Dawsonville and Murrayville so I do get to head up there a few times a year.

Low Gap campground is the first one you'll come to. Good fishing in the area with several stream options. Upper Chattahoochee campground is father up the road on the river also. Both are pay sites but there is plenty of primitive camp sites that are great for hanging along the road that are free. Good luck with y'alls adventure.

too bad you've already decided. on the upper section of the Amicacola river is a FREE campground, on the Amicacola river. excellent river canoe spot, class 2 in a couple spots. it's 7 miles up a very well kept road, jsut past a moneastery. very secure, every time i've camped there many times ove the last 20 years, the sheriff has made his rounds...no questions or snooping...just checking the place out. off highway 53 between dawsonville and jasper...call me for details. 210-6149

Thanks for all the info guys!! Just got the car packed and waiting for my buddy to get in from a meeting and then we're headed out. Gonna drive through the night and get up there in the morning. Our plan is to check out Low Gap, Upper Chattahoochee, and Alexander Springs to see which we like best. Trip report forthcoming...
