    I may be old but...

    I'm not dead yet

Hi all from Missoula, Montana. New to this and hope my back likes hammocks better than the ground. Joined here to learn lots and save myself the mistakes others made before me. I may be old and broken but I'm not that smart either, if you know what I mean.

Seriously, I am glad to have found a group that is willing to share the volumes of knowledge they possess. I really don't want to buy 5 or 6 hammocks before I find one I like so I plan to read and ask stupid questions that I couldn't find the answers to.

I'm 54 yrs old, overweight, and have a very bad back but have been backpacking most of my life. Interestingly, my back is more than willing to haul a 45lb pack up into the mountains here - it just isn't willing to sleep on 2 inches of foam without making me pay dearly the next morning. I'm hoping a hammock will allow me to get more than 5 hrs from a road. (5hrs in - 5hrs out or I don't walk straight for 3 days)

    Thanks all for having me,

    Dave

You are like most on this forum, meaning you can't sleep on a bed. I am a fairly lightweight guy and I get pain from sleeping on a bed as well which is how I spend most of my nights. Welcome to the forums from Guam.

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.

Welcome from TN! Congrats on being in the right place to lose 25lbs off of that pack and get the best nights sleep of your life. If you are unsure, you can make a gathered end hammock out of a sheet and some rope just to try the concept in the backyard.

Sounds to me like you need a "tablecloth" hammock . Best comfort for the price (and most of us are using them now) . I can't get their link to work right now, but it's tableclothsfactory.com. No sewing required. Just fan fold and zip tie and/or lash it, add your suspension, and ridgeline if you want and your done.

Welcome to the forums, from Ohio.

Welcome to HF and a wonderful group of people. I also can't sleep well on a bed, and am in a hammock every night now and it works for me. If you can get to some one who has a Clark NX 250, ask to try it out, could solve a ton of problems for you. I wish you well on this adventure.
