    Hammock Lighting

    Hey folks,

I was wondering what everyone uses and generally recommends for lighting in their hammock. I'd like something that will hang off my ridgeline and gives me a good radius of light. I'll be using it for late night equipment repairs, sewing, and trip planning for the next day. I had someone recommend the uco candle light, but I don't know how great a fire and hot wax would be hanging right beside me and my bugnet would be.

One of the cottage vendors, not sure who, sells a lil light that hangs from the RL. Not sure how good it is though. I just girth hitch my headlamp around my RL, works for me for reading.

I use my headlamp, dual purpose and it easily attaches to the ridge line with a larkshead.

I have used a UCO candle hanging off the ridgelite for the wife to be comfortable especially in bear country,,but now I like these. Dutch lites hanging off the hammock ends. http://www.outdoortrailgear.com/trai...ch-ridgelight/ You get about 2-3 nites on a set of batteries if you operate them about 6-7 hrs a burn time. Easy to change out the batteries. Better to buy the batteries off ebay in quantities than going to Lowes which I find the cheapest for a quick buy,,about 4.50 per 2. UCO candles burn 9 hrs on standard candles and if your into skeeters, they have a citrenella candle as well,,the bees wax candle they carry gives you quite a bit more burn time,,but there again,,I avoid those in bear country for the smell they might give off. My headlite on red..will last about 5 days burn time of nite lighting.

I bought some ENO Twilights as a gimick for a group hang, but I actually found they work really well for a light in your hammock. They don't swing around when you get in your hammock and move around, and they provide enough light to read by. They are by no means a gram weenie light, but they are kind of neat.

+1. This works great. If I have to walk away from the hammock for nature's call, I will be wearing my headlamp anyway, so I don't worry about having a light to see where the hammock is for the return trip.

One of these stick-lights but in red . . .
. . . red is always best for retaining night vision.
but with a three way choice you can choose white/red/flashing

Here's the place for all your lighting needs: http://www.goldengadgets.com/

Love their UFO camp light, never leave home without it.

However i am now using one of the Dutchlights on my ridge line. I also have a couple of headlamps and use these when I'm reading.
