Kayak trips & hiking are on my agenda for the hang. We gotta do something to work off all that food from those dutch ovens!

For the few of us from out of town who don't know our way around, where is a good place to get details of this camping area and general directions from the "big road"?

Here's the ONF official page for Buck Lake.

Here is a Google Maps link for directions from the corner of SR 40 and US 19 to the site. If you're coming up from the south instead, simply ignore anything before turning off of US 19.

Just a little editorial note on the Google Maps route... it tried to take me in that way last year but you can't get through the camp (I seem to remember it being an FFA camp or something like that). There is a locked gate so you have to take the dirt road just to the south (NFS 595-2). They had an HF sign out on the road to turn onto the correct road.

    Is it January yet?

Thanks, Dave. I didn't see that on the map; it's apparently "4-H Camp Ocala" according to Google. I came in from the US 19 trail head for the FT last time...

Updated map is here, and I will edit my first post for the updated route.

Yeah, apparently the US Forestry Service and the 4-H Club are in dispute about that gate. The 4-H Club seems to think since they control both sides of 595C, they control the road that goes through it. The Forestry Service, rightly in my opinion, says that the road must be publicly available to all.
