    Not new, but finally...

Getting around to a proper introduction. I have been here for almost 2 years now, and have learned a great deal from many of you. I have almost used up all 350' of the Amsteel purchased in the last group buy, and completely gone through a hank of Zing It!

I was born in 1951, making me nearly 61 already. I grew up in Ky, and attended Univ. of Louisville, making me a Card 4 Life. College basketball is the season just prior to backpacking season around my house.

I have lived in Ky, Tn, Wy, NH, Ha, and Oregon over the last 40 years. I retired from being a Union Electrician when I was 57 1/2. I worked mostly large commercial and industrial projects. Moving around the country to wherever the building boom was happening, and staying in each location for about 5 years.

Since retiring, I have had plenty of time to do more backpacking, which I was already doing almost 6 weeks a year before. I like hiking in the Grand Canyon best, followed by Yosemite and the high Sierra next. I also kayak, and spent a nice week in the Everglades this last March. Liked it so much, I bought a kayak and shipped it to a friend's house in Tampa, just so I would have my own boat there. I plan on going to Florida at least every other year for 2 weeks of paddling.

When I first heard about hammocks, what intrigued me was the report of uninterrupted sleep, and no back stiffness in the morning. As an old guy, I was growing less happy with ground dwelling. I watched a few videos, and Shug's convinced me the only way to get started was to jump right into the deep end. I bought a WBBB as my 1st, and I won a UK at the 1st annual Oregon hang. That has been the total of my hammock purchases for myself, although the wife decided she needed one also, so I bought her a Lefty 1.1 dbl.

Wives. Huh. She got a UQ along with her hammock, and inherited the first TQ I bought from UGQ because I ordered it too small. I just got mine, and it is all I could ask for.

So, my set up is a dbl 1.7 WBBB with a NeoAir pad and a Under Ground Top Quilt. I own 3 OES tarps to choose from, and the Deluxe goes most of the time. After years of backpacking with a tent, it is almost too easy to use a hammock instead. No more searching for that flat spot with good drainage.

Anyway, I just thought it might be nice if I let some of you know a little bit more about me.

    Olzeke,

You make me feel welcome with such a GREAT post!!

We are a lot alike: Simply substitute a motorcycle for your kayak; and electronics for your electrical, add much more hanging experience, and *poof you would have a "flailer" lol
