What do you use your ridgeline for?

I"ve been hammock camping it up for a few years now and I've got my system pretty well squared away. I'm not exactly up and up on the lingo that is used around here. I think I'm using what you all refer to as a ridgeline to hang my tarp with... but I'm getting the impression that some of you if not all of you use a 'ridgeline' underneath your tarp for something, which is where I begin to get confused... What exactly is the point if that's what is being done? A buddy of mine just got a hennessy that has a line running inside of it and I was completely baffled as to what it was for.... Sooo, am I missing out on something? What do you use that for?

There can be two different ridgelines.
    1. For the tarp.
    2. A hammock rl, which for most folks holds the netting up, and it gives you a more consistant sag in the hammock by keeping the ends at a set point.

So when someone mentions a rl, figure out if they are talking tarps or hammocks.

I too have a HH with a ridge line inside that holds up the bug net and the tarp. The ridge line also has a 3 pocket bag that I use told a bottle of water, head lamp, watch. There are also some small plastic carabiner clips that can be used to hang items.

To expand on the ridgeline holding the bug netting. You don't want to have the bug netting laying on you because the little "buggers" can still get you.
    It's a hammock thing, you won't understand!

The wife no longer kicks me out of bed after she saw a hammock hanging in the dog house.
