I moved my "extra" shock cord to the interior O ring at the head end of my Expedition (zip). I use it to store my folded over, Gore-tex jacket in an always accessible spot.

I have found if you attach the shock cord to one grommet then go over the ridge line to the other grommet it helps keep the bug net of your face.
I attach one end of the cord to the foot end zipper and the other end to the ridge line . Since you are supposed to open zippers fully before entering a Hennessy this makes it easier to reach and pull the foot zipper towards you. Just my two cents.
I was really excited when I saw this thread since I knew the answer since I had emailed them about it last year. Having said that I don't think I will use it that way very often, so I much appreciate the suggestions for alternate uses. I Was thinking along the lines of side pullout or tarp pullout extender.
