If you treat the hammock with permethrin will it cause the fabric to break down, or cause any difficulties with the mfg ?
Thanks

Good question, I can't wait to see a reply on this. I've been hesitant with my DIY for that reason.

My forum name is Fish<><; I'm in the navy; and I hate sleeping on the ground. If I didn't need ground to walk on or measure resistance to, I think I could happily give it up.
To my knowledge, there has never been a report of fabric break down.
Some have reported objectionable smells in their gear.
Many users praise the bug free benefits of treating with permethrin.
I treat my clothes and gear annually and will be treating my newest pieces of gear within a week or two for an upcoming trip.
This year, my son will be carrying a WBBB and that will be treated with the rest of our stuff.
Thanks papa smurf.

I sprayed my hammock down with permethrin... although its only been a little over a month, haven't noticed anything... Maybe not enough time?
I also sprayed my rain tarp down... Trying to bypass a bug net altogether

I have one of the ORIGINAL Non-Asym Hennessey Expedition hammocks, it has been sprayed net and all every season, sometimes TWICE.... The hammock has been used HARD....setup and taken down many hundreds of times...no issues.
permethrin should be fine-
BUT there have been reports of DEET (human bug spray) doing nasty things to synthetic fabrics, so you might have heard about that.

Yep, DEET is a solvent for most polymer-based fabrics. So, if you use DEET (especially the higher concentrations--above 20% or so), it's probably worth taking a field bath with a bandanna and some water before getting into your hammock for the night (I find this helpful with trail hygene anyway, but...).
As to Permethrin, my experience agrees with everyone else's. About 30 nights, total, in my hammock over the last year, treated with Permethrin before every outing, and no issues as of yet.
Hope it helps!
I've used Sawyers spray from REI and also two kinds of farm/home Permethrin solution (which I had to dilute) on my HH for three years now with no problems.
I did have some slight odor from one brand of farm solution, but switched to a home-use Permethrin and it is pretty much odorless.
I treat my hammock and gear and clothing two or three times a year (no longer spray, now I soak for two hours per military instructions).
On my last hike, two of my hike partners had at least half a dozen ticks crawl on them at a lunch stop. I had none.

Has anyone used a Permethrin solution on Cuban fiber yet? Would it even stick?
