Hi All,
Over the past year or two, I've found new inspiration about backpacking with the ultralight philosophy. Tarps, quilts, frameless packs, trail running shoes, minimal weight...I thought I liked it. One a trip this spring, a buddy of mine used a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.1DL, and I thought it was a cute oddity. It looked cool, but as a stomach sleeper I figured I was bound to the ground, and who wants all that extra weight.
So he convinced me to at least lay down in it. Wow. I was instantly struck with how comfortable it was. I should add that this was the morning after a rather cold, rocky night on the ground. So I started searching the web, and rapidly found this forum to be _the_ fount of hammock knowledge. The trade off of weight for site selection alone was enough to hook me in.
Time has passed, and I've finally signed up with an account here, and thought I should say hello. I'm a noob to all this hammock stuff, but I'm psyched. I bought a Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7S, and I've hung it out back a couple times now. My next project is going to be to make some silicon self tensioning guylines, then onto whoopie slings. I'm always on the lookout for new techniques and gear, and it looks like hammocking is like the board game Othello. Minutes to learn, and a lifetime to master.
