ps I'm working on a diy bridge in cuben, should be super light!! and I kinda challange that an under q. is heavier than a pad, my down uq (a nanatuk down bag with the foot box removed is less than a pound, should work to 30 or so? maybe lower with clothes on, where less is more! gnome

cool! That will be a first.

If you haven't started cutting yet, something to consider is a trapezoidal "base" bridge body, one that narrows from shoulder
to feet. Saves even more material. You can do without a spreader
bar at all at the feet, or use a trail stick to get a little spread down there.

That's the design I'm playing with right now in the hammock lab...has a lot potential I think in a number of ways.

Sounds like a prime candidate for a BEEP.

    edit
I have decided a BEEP should probably not have a zipper closure. Velcro would be better. Zippers can tend to hang under tension and you have to open the zipper by sliding the slider. Can't just stick you foot on the seam and twist/push.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

I think it relieves pressure. I know it does seam to feel better.

And when sleeping on my back, the pillow under the knees helps eliminate hypertension of the knees that people often feel in most hammocks.
So there is people in this world that sleep like this and know my pain..lol

    Saving weight is easy!

Just let your friend borrow one of your hammocks in exchange for him/her carrying all the beer!

    cuben bridge

thot about that. decided to make a conventional one for now, I can always cut it back to make the foot end not as wide. I'm trying to not do any sewing, I have had great luck with the glue strips from kite builders (and others). with a pac, tarp rain gear, stuff sacs etc. I am trying very lite carbon fiber tubes as spreaders. I figure the foot end can be quite lite. I hope to develope it so I will not have to use any rings. We shall see how it all works out. gnome

We should start another thread with a poll on back problems and then what type. I grimace at some peoples' descriptions mainly because I'm aware of the pain myself . . . oh, to be young, stupid and pain-free again . . . . .

There is a disability thread already started.... no poll included but that could be added.

prevailing wisdom is that most of the strength of the carbon tube is in the long direction, that there isn't so much stiffness in the side-to-side. If true means that you really don't want any bend in that pole, else the game is over and you have a snapped pole and your neighbor has a busted window

on rings--not necessary. certainly don't need them at the hammock corners---other ways to attack the poles. I still have them at the apex of my suspension triangle, but it is a convenience thing. A place to hook a ridgeline or connect shock cord from something under the hammock, maybe pull up some covering over the hammock. But optional for sure.

    good luck. Post pictures!
