Myself and BrucieHi5 decided some time ago, that we should do a 7 day hike over at Fraser Island. Plans where in place a while back and we counted each day till the day. That day finally came and now it's gone, but we managed to fit in a 7 day 6 night hike on the Largest Sand island in the world.
Largest sand island in the world and as you can imagine a lot of sand, yet the island is rice in vegetation, so much so, it was a struggle to keep our batteries topped with our Solar Panels, Not much sun was seen in the 7 days, not because of clouds or rain, we had the best week of weather we could have wished for, Fraser Island is very rich in vegetation and has a lot of big trees. I've not had to wear my sunglasses except when I explored the Hammerstone Sandblow.
Lots of new toys to play with, a new pack and a new cooker including a different approach to meals, saw a very successful trip.
My pack weight including 3.1kg of food and 2 litres of water was 14kg.
As each day went past my pack got lighter and lighter. 2 litres of water on day one was a overkill. as it's the middle of winter over here now. 1 litre of water was enough to carry each day. Fraser Island is full of pristine clear water lakes, as you will notice with some under water footage part way into the video report.
On the 2nd night into our trip at Central Station, an old logging station from the past we woke up to find the temp at 2 degrees celcius. This is the coldest I've ever been down to in my hammock and I can say it was a huge success, my Hammock Gear Top Quilt and Warbonnet Under Quilt kept me toasty and warm.
I'll let the video tell the rest of our trip.
