Need help with a hike in the Whites

Sometime in September or October I'm kinda sorta planning on trying the "Weekend+: Pemigewasset Wilderness Loop" described here:

    http://www.backpacker.com/2012-june-...s/16635?page=7

The first two nights should be no problem finding a place to hang. However the third night is at Guyot campsite and I'm thinking that might be a problem.

Does anyone know if it's possible to hang up there? Or will i (horror) be forced back to the ground!

Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Ish

    That's a wonderful hike. I envy you!

The problem is everything north and south of Guyout is on the ridge, much of which is above treeline (above 4000'). There are portions where there are trees but, they are spruce and many small, dwarfed by the harsh weather. I never sleep in tent sites or shelters. I just leave the trail and find my own sanctuary. However, south of Guyout tent site is the Pemi Wilderness boundary with camping restrictions and it's still on the ridge and its a long ways north of there before elevations drop into decent trees to hang from.

Tough to plan a Fall hike in the Whites at this remove. I climbed Mt. Washington in October once, but I did it by camping way down in Jefferson Ravine and waiting 2 days for a break in the weather. Then I zipped to the top and back down again. Camp low and climb high. Later I met a couple with red faces who'd camped above treeline on Mt. Eisenhower while I was hunkered down. The wind had shredded their tent. Have a good trip, but adapt to the weather as you go, and camp down in the trees.

I'm going to agree with Rev on the post-Labor Day in the White Mountains caveats. I grew up there. The weather can change in a heartbeat, especially near tree line. We always hiked south NH after Labor Day---Monadnock, around Lake Massabesic, Pawtuckaway SP, Bear Brook SP, Kancamagus, canoeing the Saco----dang I need to take a trip back up in September------

I hiked in that area a couple years ago, remember going down to the Mt Guyot campsite and was able to hang by one of the tent platforms. The care taker showed us where the best place to hang was. There wasn't very many places, but with just one or two hammocks it would be OK.
