    Charlotte, NC Noobie

Hello, all. I have been gleaming thoughts and ideas from HF for about 2 weeks now, so I figured I would give back by making my first post. I have been very involved with Boys Scouts for some time. Lately, about 1/3 of our scouts have been using hammocks on campouts, mostly ENO's, but we have a few boys that just can't afford a factory-made one. On one campout, one of the boys used rope that was in the trailer to tie his sleeping bag between two trees. Not very safe, but would love to do something to help this young man out.

At our week at summer camp, we were having a discussion about hammocks. One of the scoutmaster made a comment that he had seen online instructions on making your own hammock for much less than an ENO. So, after a few Google searches, I discovered that Hammock Forums is the starting point for this venture. I have purchased some rip stop nylon and have some Amsteel rope on order. Looking forward into making, redesigning, making, redesigning, making, etc, and then start giving them away.

Thanks again to all who have posted along with all of the pictures.

That would be awesome. Question, can you do a double layer with the Tableclothsfactory material? I am very interested in doing one that way, with the ability to put my Thermarest pad between the two. We do a majority of our campouts in the fall and spring.
