A retired gentleman in a fishing boat dropped by when I was there, said he saw one a few years ago! I'm not sure I'd want to open my eyes in the middle of the night and see one looking back at me, you know? I don't think they are dangerous unless you antagonize them, but still.... Meow.
Never went there. We paddled Smoke, Ragged, Big Porcupine

and Little Coon Lakes. Several days at Big Porc and Ragged Lake.

Beautiful country, we loved it. Portage to Big Porcupine is a son-of-a-*****! They call it the 'Devil's Staircase' and I can't disagree.

I wish like hell we would have brought hammocks for everyone on my trip. We paddled in (and did one portage) in monsoon-like rains. Several inches fell while we paddled. Lakeside campsites were a series of huge puddles. We had to visit 5 campsites in miserable driving rain with 4 kids in tow to find somewhere that wasn't too wet for tents. If we had hammocks the first site would have been fine. Although it is true that I only had to pitch 2 tarps instead of 6... We brought a couple ENO's along to play around with. One of the kids ended up sleeping there most nights, and he's not slept on the ground since. We fought over who got to lounge and nap in them.
The Devil's Staircase! We did that portage this last year on our Fall EGL Trip. Going South was tough; North was a relative joy!
