Here is the comparison, how can snow or its absence affect awesomeness of place. Both are with 30 m/s+ (67 mph+ or 108km/h+) winds.

to self: my ridgeline is 9', my whoopies each add 7.5', I have 7' of tree strap times two
Assuming hang angles of ~30 deg. and marlin spike hitches,
RL + whoopies + tree straps - marlin spike hitches - tree diameters(T below) = span
9' + (2 * 7.5' * cosine 30) + (2 * 7')- (2 * 0.5')- 2*T'*pi = 25'
Maximum tree diameter T for me= just over 1.9' with a little margin for error from the uninvolved circumference of the tree facing the hammock.
to self: make some dog bones of Amsteel to extend reach.

My lady friend and I were sharing the Yukon double hammock at the local park
I'd rather be hanging.
Well, I went with the trail by fire method and took my gear to a motorcycle rally without ever setting it up.. We'll just say it was an educational weekend, as it got down to 33 degrees that night.. 36 the next night..
I had a down bag under me, and I was in another down bag, with a fleece bag on top of me.. When I got up at 5:30 to address the call of nature, I looked back and my fly was white with frost..
I've since changed a few things around and have learned a lot. This is what's made it fun, since I've been camping for 40 years, and motorcycle camping for 30 years.. But it's always been inside a tent.. Now, and almost 49, I'm changing and enjoying every minute of it!!
Anyway, this was my first hang ever..
No man is an island. Except the Isle of Man.
BMW looks like under there. I stick my gear on a 1986 R80RT.

“Stories set in the Culture in which Things Went Wrong tended to start with humans losing or forgetting or deliberately leaving behind their terminal. It was a conventional opening, the equivalent of straying off the path in the wild woods in one age, or a car breaking down at night on a lonely road in another.”
