While at this year's Moto Guzzi National Rally I got there early and hung at this spot.. Since there were several flat spots (it was in Iowa) at the campground I decided to be nice and set up in a not so level spot.

And yeah, I know.. That's not a Moto Guzzi.. I used to own one, and I was riding a bunch of the gravel roads in the area, so the big dual sport was my choice for the weekend. (there's 6 other bikes in the garage)

Anyway, I slept in the hammock from Wednesday to Saturday, and I slept GREAT!! We had a couple hours of hard rain on Saturday around dusk and I sat under my "porch" with a buddy in dry comfort.

My buddies and I have an annual "Man Camping" event up in Lake Elmo, MN. Last year I showed up with a hammock, everyone thought I was crazy and such. I think my ability to sleep 12 hours despite the shouts of early morning revelry convinced them that maybe I was onto something.

To my surprise, two of my brothers showed up with hammocks this year. They got them off of some deal online, and are basic (but nice) side entry hammocks with integrated bug nets. The issue is that they didn't come with any suspension at all. One brother showed up with totally workable ratchet straps. The other thought we could get away with paracord. The first time he tied it up, he was on the ground. We managed to borrow another ratchet strap from someone else, and only had to use the paracord on one side. After doubling it up, and accommodating for the stretch we finally managed to get him a decent lay. Bungie cords and more paracord got a tarp over him, and somehow (somehow!) we had a hammock hanging.

This is the end result (back of picture, my HH is in the foreground). Once he was in it, that much higher end sagged down to leave him flat.

I slept like a dead man BTW.

Camping in Valdez, it rained super hard, my diy hex and Chinook worked perfectly.

My wife decided she wanted my ridgeline organizer just before we left, so I made one from a super cheap local high school bag, a couple little biners and my knife and zippo.

In Town we hung at a lookout way up high with a great view.

our two ENOs (DN in forground/SN in rear) between three trees down by Quartz Creek east of Sweet Home Oregon. We were using them for lounging in the camp. The Kelty Noha 16 was basically there to keep the pine needles and falling ants off us.

and we slept in the van conversion...and cooked/etc in the trailer. Overkill for sure. But a fun and economical set up.

I went on a solo trip knowing it was supposed to rain to try out my new Warbonnett edge tarp. I absolutely love old-growth forest in Washington!

I went camping in the great north woods at a camp-ground, to my surprised I picked a site that had no trees!!! What do to?!? Perfect place to test my handy hammock stand. On the last day, it rained for about 3 hours, it was heavy rain, and nothing got wet. I'm very happy with my results. This is the result:

    I'd rather be hanging.
