Whoopie through channel once or twice?

I noticed on the video at whoopieslings.com, they pass the whoopie through the channel of the hammock twice. I have done that with my hammocks, but I am curious... Is there any evidence, whether anecdotal or otherwise, of passing the whoopie through once or twice?

I will state that the stock crappy suspension on the Walmart Equip hammock has two strands through the channel, so that's part of the reason I decided to pass the whoopie through twice on that one. I also bought a Tree Runner SL from SLD and passed it through twice as well, since that was the way I did it with the Equip.

Thanks for the input and advice!

I ran mine twice simply because the whoopie's are a smaller diameter and I figured a second pass would lessen the strain on the hammock material from the smaller diameter cord. It may not matter at all but it gave me a little piece of mind. I tend to over think everything.

Hi. I'm new to DIY but have made a few hammocks now. The first ones I did with a single pass and now I do a double and I prefer twice through. It seems to lock the channel in a ring nice and tight. Doing it with a single not as tight. Play around a bit and see which you prefer, more rope used with the double though.

I do the double pass if the loops are 8" which is too long for my liking. That's the case with the cinch buckles I got from Dutch - they work great and there's a little less cordage flopping around.

I agree that the double appears to be tighter. That's what I'm going with for now, I just wonder if anyone has truly had any issues with one or the other...

There is no real reason and it does not make anything the least bit stronger running through twice. Just eats up some of the line which can allow a shorter minimum hang span by a couple inches on each end. Either way works just fine.
