Me and a friend wanted to get our backpacking fix for the week so we headed out to do a quick 8 miles in, 8 miles out kinda deal. Very easy hike along a lake in Mid TN. We got to the campsite earlier in the day but went exactly thrilled with its location on the lake. It was off to the side in a Tiny cove way off the main channel so we after convincing my friend we walked along the rocky shore for about .2 miles and found a few nice trees right on the water. I had to convince my friend to try our hammocks and not use our tent for the night. ( we had brought a tent but also had hammocks for lounging.
It was nice weather but a chance of rain during the night so we fixed an improvised solution of only having one tent so we just stacked 2 hammocks under a tarp all on one tree. It was hard to get into the top hammock but one we were in for the night I thought it was very peaceful. Other than a few mosquitoes and having my thermarest come out from underneath me I was pretty comfortable. The tarp was pretty steady and worked out well. Initially I had problems on how to lay but eventually got pretty flat in a diagonal with about 1/8 of my mattress pad actually under me but oh well. It was really cool to be able to look out at the lake and shore all during the night instead of being in a tent and not having a clue of whats going on. It sold me on the idea of using a hammock. With some modifications ill be out again in a few weeks trying again and again.
