    Sew-up PLUQ

I will finish my underquilt tonight or tomorrow. I purchased 3, the first one was what I would call well used and probably an older model, the second 2, look almost unused and with shipping paid 18.50 each. The well used one I cut up for my first quilt, has a seam running thru it, just like a tarp at its widest. Its been a long long time and I couldn't remember a seam in the liners, anyone know if this is unique of did the older liners often have a seam? Ok moving on, I have sewn in the IX, when the inner and outer layers are together there is a slight gap between each layer, I think the inner layer was 39" and the outer is 41" and the IX loosely fills the space between them. For those of you that have gone before is this about right? Everything is sewn together and needs to be edged. I removed and saved the original edging and plan on reusing it on the ends. I picked up some 1.9 ripstop to use for the channels I plan on making them about 2'' on each side to give it a little width back since it will be 39" wide plus about 1 3/4" x 2 for the channels. Hoping with a 20⁰ down bag to be warm at mid 30's. When done testing, grandson will use it as I am now planing a 6.0 climashield that should be good to 20 degrees. For those of you that have done the no sew or sew up PLUQ how have you cleaned them? Can you wash them on gentle and hang them? How does the IX take cleaning?

    Thanks,
    - Gary -

Sorry for the next question....why would you need to? Unless you drop the quilt on the ground and stomp around on it your UQ shouldn't ever get dirty. You'll have the body of the hammock between you and the quilt every time. At the worst you might have to brush off some forest litter than blows up against the bottom. Anything but some serious mud won't matter anyway.

    A topquilt is another story....
