    NooB from NJ

    Hola Amigos!

After creepin' around the old Hammock Forums for six months I figure I'd stop lurking and actually sign up and post something.

    Well, my story goes....
I've been on a quest to drop some weight and get back in shape as per the doc. After failing miserably at trying to be a "gym" person,I got back into hiking/backpacking after almost twenty years.Instantly I realized I'm much happier in the woods roaming around then in the end of a stripmall, surrounded by muscle heads, sucking in my gut when the ladies stroll by.My only dilemma being the nights on the ground with the creepy crawlers and unforgiving roots sticking in my ribs.To remedy that I looked around and found an ENO Doublenest with the Guardian bugnet on Ebay for a great price.Being 6'1" and 260 lbs I didnt have many choices as far as hammocks went.I wanted the Warbonnet Blackbird but decided on the ENO mainly to see if I was going to dig sleeping in a hammock or not and in case I didn't,not spend too much.I think it took all of about 30 seconds for me to be sold and after waking up that first morning feeling like a million bucks,I was officially a hammock and hammock accessory junkie!

I've upgraded the suspension with Dutch's Whoopie Hooks and added a Warbonnet Silny Superfly to replace my XL military rain poncho/tarp.I gotta say,the Superfly is one hell of a tarp and the built in doors make it a lot more versatile as far as pitching options go.Still trying to get dialed in on the best guyline situation but the combo has worked out very well so far.

I'm using an Osprey Atmos 65 pack and a MSS Patrol Bag as a TQ with a Thermarest underneath me.Im happy with it,for now,but I know I'm going to eventually upgrade just about everything before the weather gets colder. My plan is to get some snowshoe and pulk action in this winter to escape my usual yuletide hibernation.I'll have to sell off some other hobbies and possibly a kidney but I've been eyeballing the Warbonnet Blackbird and Mamba TQ,ULA Ohm 2.0 and the Hammockgear full length UQ and cuben fiber tarp. That should get me through the cold New Jersey winters no problem.

Unfortunately,I'm usually heading out alone so I'm definitely looking forward to meeting some other hang junkies, hitting some trails and learning more about the ways of the Hammock!

Welcome from the Jersey Shore. Let's hope for a "cold NJ winter" this year because we basically didn't have a winter last year.

Holla if you need a hiking partner. I try to get out once or twice a month, either down in the Pine Barrens or the Appalachian Trail in CT or PA.

I really like the Pine Barrens because you can increase your mileage and get your legs in shape, without having to tackle elevations. And there's plenty of water so you can cool off in this oppressive heat.

    Welcome again!

Nice to hear someone in the same boat as myself. Doc didn't tell me to lose weight yet, but that is coming - you and I could be body doubles . Welcome from Montana, from one new guy to another.
