    Golite Poncho/Tarp as undercover

Wondering if I could get some help on best way to rig a Golite poncho/tarp under a HH Safari. Attaching it to the rings on my suspension with shock cord by the three tie outs on the short side looks like it would work fine except there are a couple of folds hanging down. I don't see a way to gather the loose material up so it won't catch wind/rain.

    Thanks for any help.

Thanks, I hadn't thought about those. I don't think they will help w/what I'm trying to do. However, looking at them again made me think of something I hadn't tried.

    Thanks again.

I did this last weekend with my 2012 golite poncho tarp in lieu of an under quilt. I did a makeshift mod in the field, so nothing permanent, but it worked great.

The "folds" you mentioned, are they on the short edge that you're tying up?

If so, is there enough space in the hem of the tarp to run shock cord through it so that you can gather it with a cord lock like some underquilts?

It would require a fid, an hot pin (or something similar) to make the entry and exit holes, and some patience, but...

    Hope it helps!

I think I'm lost here.... Are you trying to put it below your underquilt to protect it from rain/moisture?

Thanks. After I took everything down I thought about taking a couple of short pieces of shock cord w/cord locks and gathering up the loose material after I hung it under the hammock. If it works out I'll post a pic.

By the way, thanks for your great book and all the illustrations you post on the forums. Without them and all the great folks here I would have never figured enough stuff out to survive my first trip w/a hammock.

Yes, the folds are between the tie outs on the short end. The tie outs (3) would also prevent a shock cord passing through the hem.

After I took everything down I thought about taking a couple of short pieces of shock cord w/cord locks and gathering up the loose material on each end after I hung it under the hammock. If it works out I'll post a pic.

Thanks for the reply and the ideas.

+1 on putting line through the short edge hems. This line with a cordlock will cinch it up nicely. Works great. Google "garlington insulator" which is what inspired me to initially do this to my poncho.
