I recently posted that my first DIY hammock self-destructed.
Well, today I ordered seven yards of 40D "Urban Grey" ripstop and three yards of "Grey" no-see-um mesh with plans to make my own hammock based on this thread created by headchange4u. I'm hoping the 1.5oz 40D ripstop is strong enough as a single layer for my ~210-lbs body weight, plus gear.
I'm also hoping to implement an organizer like this one created by AtHomeDad. I'm thinking of integrating a zipper system so the organizer can be removed and/or moved to the foot or head.
I have a week-long scout camp I'm attending in mid-August and I hope to have it ready by then—if not, hopefully before a three night backcountry hike with my brother and dad in late-August. There's tons of mosquitos up there and I really don't want to use my DIY bugnet sock for the week. I'd rather have an integrated one.
I haven't decided yet how I'm going to create my entrance. I'm considering either bottom velcro, or a "half zipper" (bugnet opens on only one side). I'm really leaning towards the zipper option for ventilation reasons.
I've ordered enough fabric so I will also be able to make a top cover to help add warmth when I want to close up the bugnet a bit more.
Any suggestions, feedback, etc would be appreciated.
