    backyard hammocking and uv degradation

What is your feeling re: using snakeskins to prevent uv deterioration of a sil tarp? Would it be sufficient?

I guess it would depend on how much UV the skins let through. Since they are for backyard use, they do not need to be light, so you could make a set out of material that does not let any UV through.

Yep - make some skins from packcloth and they'd protect the hammock. Don't forget that UV affects the straps/cords as well.

Great Idea. I'm not really a DIY'er so really didn't think of that. Lucky for me, I just met a local lady who sews. She just repaired some high end cycling clothes for a guy that got into a bad biking accident and had all his duds cut off by the medics. While they were snipping awy he was like "No, don't cut my clothes!" Anyway, do you hve a good source for the pack cloth Jeff?

I know www.questoutfitters.com used to carry it. Check the HF links page for more.

I talked them into sliding the newly modified hiking pants off with out cutting them, but no such luck with the cool new, wicking tee shirt
    I loved that shirt man
