    Bridge Interest

I am putting out this thread to see what the interest would be in a new bridge hammock.

The hammock would be inspired my the Grizz Bridge hammock videos. It would have 35inch spreader bars. The triangles would be constructed from amsteel to save on weight but not reduce strength. It would feature tarp protectors on the ends of the poles.

The weight of the hammock without spreader bars would vary based on material used. Probably 8-12ozs from our testing. The bars weigh 9.9 ozs.

The hammock would be half open at both ends to allow for circulation of air.

My wife is master seamstress, she has been making clothes for years. I would be doing the rope work.

I am asking for feedback, before we go out and buy a lot of materials. We have not established a selling price yet, but we would like it to be in the $130-$160 range. With a fully enclosed bug net being produced later.

What do you think? I'm not asking for sales right now, just thoughts.

    Thanks,
    Drake

The attached picture is of an initial test hang, the hammock is not yet completed as of this picture. The ends have not been sewn up to the triangles.

From the photo it looks like those are one-piece spreader bars. Can't imagine where I would carry 35" bars on my backpack.

In general I'm always interested in something new, but I've already got 2 hammocks and don't plan to buy any more in the near future.

I love bridge hammocks but I would want the bug net incorporated into the hammock.

Spaceweaseal, I thought I would like an incorporated bugnet , but I just spent 6 nights in a bridge with an all encompassing bugnet and I liked it much better than I did my BMBH. I liked being able to place my shoes in the bugnet and extra clothes and stuff. And the 360 degree mosquito protection is a plus. Ive been bit through hammocks before, even double layered hammocks.

Also in the winter months I dont have to pack the weight of the net.

I'd love a bridge hammock but have worried that a JRB would not handle my large 6' 2" frame and 275 lb. weight. Make it to fit me and I'll buy one.

We are currently planning on making a few different sizes. The current hammock would be for people 6 foot and under, we are working on one that would handle up to 6 and a half feet.

Weight wise, we will have to do some testing

I like a seperate bugnet so it can be removed when not needed. I liked the new Chrysalis bugnet, and thought something like that would be nice. It definitely needs a ridgeline to keep the bugnet out of your face. I hate a sagging bugnet.
I do like the Bridge, but like it long so it doesn't feel confining. I felt confined in the BMBH. Could just be me though. I did however love the double bottom on the BMBH.

Unfortunately, I never owned, slept in or tried a bridge hammock, but I'm keen on getting one, given the chance (it's not easy getting all the interesting stuff on the other side of the ocean). At the moment, I think that I would mainly use a bridge hammock at home, indoors, because I found hanging a hammock indoors difficult. Since I never had a problem sleeping in a normal hammock outdoors, I would probably not take the bridge hammock backpacking, unless weight, pack size and features would be comparable.
