Hanging HG Phoenix basic question

I just purchased a 40* HG Phoenix and have a basic question on the cording that is used to attach the quilt. I understand that the cord running in the channel the length of each side of the quilt - attached to the line near the each gathered end of the hammock - allows hammock allowing the quilt to slide from head to foot (adjust to how you are lying in the hammock).

The second cord runs in a channel at each end allowing the quilt to be cinched at the head and foot of the quilt to close out air gaps

But there is a third cord, also at the head and foot that is attached through two plastic clips (through no channel) and the clips allow the cord to be tightened. Does anyone know if this third cord is meant to go over the ridge line to help stabilize the setup or does it serve some other function?

That is the secondary suspension meant to be attached to hmmk suspension. Once the primary suspension (running through channels) is set and the quilt is in place, these are attached to reduce sag that can occur in colder temps or throughout the night. If you liken the shock cord to a spring, long springs are really floppy along their length as compared to a small spring keeping its shape better.

I haven't seen this, yet, though I have (too) many Phoenixes.
But, why not speculate anyway?

A 40F Phoenix should be light enough that there will be no sagging issues that might come up with a full length and heavier UQ.

When all the firefighters are lined up, they all wear uniform uniforms: belts and suspenders, the skinny and the fat; those who have lost weight and could use both suspensions, and those who are fit and trim as your tailor and designer, Stormcrow.

So, use what works for you the way you hang your hammock. Only at the station-house will there be inspections for uniformity..
