And thanks for the suggestions about putting a knot after the rings, I will do that next time I put my hammock up.

Ok, hanging gang, I was going to order my SMC descending rings from REI today, but they're out of stock, which would put them on backorder. However, if you go to SMC's website, they can be ordered directly from the manufacturer http://www.smcgear.net/products.asp?cat=5&pid=44. They're $2.75 from SMC versus the $2.50 from REI, but if you need them, the extra quarter is worth it, I'm sure.

Miu, good job on the ring buckles. I'm not a purple kind of guy, but it works for you. What kind of webbing did you use?

The webbing is from Strapworks, lightweight 1" polypro w/ 600 lb test. And they have LOADS of perty colors to choose from

Cool, I ordered some 1" heavyweight polyester from strapworks in black. I'm not really too worried about purdy colors, but they do have plenty from which to choose. I even saw some in camouflage, which is more my speed. But black is pretty neutral, doesn't stand out too much and is just basic.

I'll actually get to use it for the first time tonight
I just got in from an overnight. The ring suspension is the only way to go. I had packed my gear this morning prior to going on a day hike with the scouts. When we got back, I decided I wanted to lay down for a quick nap prior to dinner. Broke out the hammock and set it up in a jiffy. I never would have done that before 'cause it was too much trouble with the stock ropes and tree huggers. BTW, it was a great nap!!!
    Peace,

Just curious....why do some people use a beaner for securing the strap to the tree. I just tie a bolin(sp) loop at the end of the strap. Why carry two extra biners when you don't have to? BTW....I love the ring system.

I could'nt agree more. I plan on taking my Hennessy on future day hikes and use it as a chair/lounger. I hated those tree huggers.

Using the CAMP Nano biners at 0.8 oz each, you're only paying a 1.6 oz weight penalty. Leave them clipped through the webbing end loop and you don't have to even be concerned about another piece of equipment - they become a part of the webbing.
And you can also leave the strap threaded through the rings which you can't do if you have to thread the strap through a loop first. That makes it much more convenient and quicker.

    Well.....

I did this very set up this weekend... Not a happy camper. Maybe it had something to do with the webbing that I used, but shortly after I laid down there was a great thud onto the ground...

I did this exactly as Miu has pictured, but my webbing slipped the rings.

Any suggestions as to what went wrong?
