I don't have a HH so I can only comment on the rings.

I found Sling Rings that I use on mine. They are guaranteed to 250 lbs but are said to lift a 3,000 lb. machine. They are sold in pairs for less than the a single SMC ring. They are a risk since they are not sold for climbing purposes but they appear to be identical in quality. The only down side I've found to them is that they are a bit large with the smallest ring having an inside dimension of about 2".

The cost savings was the deciding factor on these for me since any mod I do, I have to do it to 4 other hammocks

Certain is using rings with her HH as she finishes her AT hike. I only use rings because my kids (7-9) can put up and take down their hammocks themselves.

    Question for JustJeff.

From another thread, posted by JustJeff:
Here's how to use the Garda Hitch on HH w/o modifications.
    http://www.tothewoods.net/HomemadeGearHHGarda.html

Nice, simple and minimal weight gain system Jeff. Have you field tested this setup? The Garda (alpine clutch) hitch shouldn't slip. But, any problems with any wet line slipping or slipping due to the type of suspension line HH uses?

Regarding ring mod and gardahitch, specially if you don't want to cut, change, or have remaining hanging rope like it happened to me on my hh when i changed to the ringbuckle system, look at this thread:
    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=1623

I changed the rings from the hammock's end to the tree huggers so i could be able to use the hennessy rope and thus also use the stock tarp attached to the hammock. The rope with Garda hitch through the rings is great and i now prefer this than using the long straps through the rings. Pretty much as shown by TreeDweller's thread but without the treesizing loops, i made my self a pair of larger-than-stock tree huggers with rings attached to them, this using the long straps i had made for the ring buckle system.

Hope this help out others arroung.

hey everyone, i saw this thresd pop up again and i may have found out something new.

i have recently been messing with d-rings for ring buckles/webbing suspension. i have been having the webbing run over the flat part of the d-ring. it seems to load the webbing much better, this results in a smoother adjustment and (at least for me) not needing to tie the backup slipped half hitch.

if using a d-ring, you still have to make sure to align the larks head in the center of the curved part, the same you do with round rings. it it's not in center, the webbing won't stack just right and it is likely to slip.

to fix this i tried triangle rings, and they seem to self align the larks head very well, especially after it tightens down.

i've only been messing with these for a little while, but i really think the tri ring is better than any other shape for the webbing ring buckle.

I'm comforted by the idea that the SMC rings are climbing rated, but like most of us here I like to experiment. Any links to find strong triangle rings?

I am looking for 4 SMC rings so that I can mod my HH Explorer Deluxe. REI seems to have SMC rings backordered.
All of the rings that I find have a listed weight of 4 oz.
After reading all 2 million posts in this thread, I seem to think I remember these rings being much lighter. Have I gone off the deep end?

    Thanks,
    Oak

Oak, you may try the slingrings I feel they are just as good as the SMC's for hammocks.
