I was going more or less the same route but just doubling the 5mm cord i've got so leaving the webbing out i'm trying to have as few joints as possible.

    Quick release single ring system?

Forgive me if this has already been considered and shot down but my 10 sec. test in the basement seemed to work. See attached pictures.
Basically the rope represents a SRL and the webbing represents the webbing. Webbing comes under ring and tent peg (1/4" aluminum peg in this case) up through the center of ring then doubles back over the peg and under the ring (buckle style), then back over both ring and peg, through the center back up the webbing and tie a slippery half hitch. When its time to go un-slip the half hitch and pull the peg...in theory it can't jam and you don't have to worry about two rings staying parallel etc etc. Don't get me wrong I had safety glasses on and everything when I tried this in case things went flying but I gave it some pretty good bounces and it all seemed pretty solid.
    What do ya all think?

    BTW love this site.

    Good Luck

I've just been playing with my Claytor and wondered if anyone has done this, instead of the cord through the channel just put a carabiner through it (to save on fabric wear and tear) then a short piece of cord from that to the rings, i'm thinking about 6 or 8 inch. It is a bit tight getting the carabiner through but it does just fit. I'm not concerned about the extra oz from the carabiner as i'm on my bike.

    Any thoughts,

Swoosh, I just put the photos in the the gallery under "other accessories not listed" I don't know how to link the thumbnails to the gallery. They may be out of order in the gallery as well, backwards basically.

Redoleary, I think what you suggest is a great idea. There's no threading of the straps through loops .... just loop the end of the strap, push it through the ring, slide in the stake, tighten, secure and flop in the hammock. I'm leaving in a couple hours for the high country and intend to try it.

Yeah, it works great, but in the quest for lighter & smaller I've already changed to a strap and rope set up similar to Grizz's video. But I think the ring and peg was a bit easier to do it just used more strap than I wanted to carry. Just don't forget to take the end of the strap and go back over itself, the peg and through the ring to lock it. Good luck. Have a good trip.

I like the way you think, Red.

I tried similar things on my journey to where I am with the UCR/toggle system. After using a toggle with a ring, I found I could substitute a carabiner for the ring:

After switching from straps to rope I tried a toggle with a ring:

The toggle is the 'marlinspike' in a marlinspike hitch in this picture. It also worked with a carabiner, btw.

The other thing I tried at the tree was a pseudo marlinspike hitch:

Basically, you push a bight through the end loop of the strap and put a toggle through the bight, then cinch everything down. Holds nice, and gives a quick release.

IME these methods work just fine, so I'd press on as suits your fancy.

    Cheers!

I have been playing around with the marlin spike set-up. Not having any bloodwood (see grizz's vids), I thought a 'biner would work.gargoyle marlin spike 012.JPG
Then you can use 'biner to hold stuff sacks or small pack items.gargoyle marlin spike 016.JPG

Very clever. That would be a good place to hang your pack.
