    ring buckles alternative

for those people who are in the uk and are finding it hard to find ring buckles, i have had good sucess with a caribina and a munter hitch has the same effect as being able to adjust but heeds a slippery hitch at the end and an overhand knoct to lock it of.

I tried searching the thread but could not find anything about using this customization with the HH backpacker hyperlight. I read on mcsparens Youtube video that the ropes on the Hyperlight were too thin for this to work.

Is this the case? Do I need to remove the rope and substitute it for paracord or something else?

    Any tips/pointers??

You can use the HH suspension rope and just tie the rings on and cut the excess off. It isn't tough to remove the little sock on teh end of the HH and replace the rope with something lighter if you wish to go that route also.

    Selection of rings

I am upgrading my rings on my ring buckles. Thicker or thinner, what gives best performance. (donuts vs. onionrings)

    2) Depending on the time of year, my weight tends to fluctuate b/t 230-270. What kind of cord should I use to connect from hammock to ring buckle? Will Ed's spectra cord be strong enough?
Couldnt you just clip the biner through the rings, then thread the strap through the rings, then finally just wrap the strap around the tree then clips biner around the strap to secure. I know it would put the adjustment on the wrong side of the tree, but it seem as if it would work without having to change existing strap system. Just a thought....

    HI All,
    i'm still new to hammock.
that suspension system interrest me a lot for it simplicity.

i'm still in the "planning stage" of my setup, buying parts.

for those using the suspension as the first post shows it, how long of webing straps do you use at each end of you hammock?

I would use a single strap to go around the tree and then to the end of the hammock where the rings would be attach. how long should i get at each end?

    thanks in advance.

You will probably want a minimum of about 2 meters on either end to the tree and then enough to go around the trees you expect to encounter. I have use 3 to 4 meter length at each end. And a little advice: do not use nylon webbing unless you like to end up on the ground a lot - it stretches.
