I would watch the shape of the biners. Part of the reason why the rings work so well is their shape. There are no odd corners to reduce the holding friction. Most biners have non-symetrical bends to them that may tend to let you on the ground now and then. Just a caution.

does Jeffs page show or mention that you need to tie a slip knot in the webbing. I looked but must have missed it

I'm not sure if it does. I thought some people said they did not need it, but I do.

the biners would be worth a try.
stoikurt, that's an interesting idea. it would tighten the knot up much more, but if it's a quick release knot, it shouldn't be a problem.
but the first concern i have in my thoughts would be putting so much more demand on the knotted webbing w/ that method???

apparently there can be several factors involved that will cause it to slip or not slip... types of webbing, rings???
some people find no need for the slip knot while others (including me) do.

The warbonnet guy told me he found sprectra webbing at a climbing site. It weighed a little less then nylon, did not stretch, and had a 4000 lbs load rating. With a cost of $.80 a foot.

    http://www.yatesgear.com/climbing/slings/index.htm

Yates Sewn Slings are offered in thre types of webbing designed for various applications 11/16" Nylon, 14mm Dyneema, and "New" 12mm Spectra
11/16" Nylon Webbing: This standard webbing is used for multi-purpose applications. Economical pricing makes this a good choice for entry level climbers and all around use. Runner Strength: 23kN.
11mm & 14mm Dyneema Webbing: "Dyneema" webbing consists of a blend of Dyneema and Nylon fibers woven together to form a webbing that has superior properties. The bonus of Dyneema fiber is that it is stronger, lighter and absorbs less water compared to Nylon. The down side of Dyneema is that it melts at a much lower temperature than Nylon. We have developed an exclusive weave pattern for our 11mm and 14mm Dyneema webbing that maximizes the benefits of both fibers. Our weave pattern has been shown to be superior in abrasion and snagging tests. Our Unique Nylon edge weave eliminates Dyneema fibers snagging on crystals and pulling from the webbing!
    Runner Strength 11mm webbing: 22kN.

    Runner Strength 14mm webbing: 22kN.

I am debating right now whether or not I want to spend the $35+ to add it right now.

Hammock Engineer, We must have been looking at the same site at the same time. When I called them the man on the phone said it was really good stuff, and they have 5 colors available. The 14 mm is $.85/ft, I would like something a little more wider, but it has around a 5000 pound breaking strength.

Did you happen to catch the weight? I would drop the cash if it was a good savings. I feel like I am at or close to the point now that I have to drop some cash to save any real weight.
