    Ridgeline Length

Is there a standard length that most people start with for a ridgeline?

83% of the hammock length is the common starting point around here. From there you can shorten or lengthen to tweak how it feels for you.

The general rule is 83% of the length of the hammock.

I personally prefer about 80%, but its a ymmv situation. Hang your hammock with an adjustable ridge line, then you can change it whenever you want. I use a whoopie for mine, but a simple prussick on regular rope is what I started with before my splicing days. Good luck.

I would highly recommend the adjustable ridgeline. Build enough range in it to get you from 80% to 90%. I usually build mine as a simple UCR.

My preference is around 88% of the hammock length.
