My first hammock camp was a rousing success. It rained. Not only did I stay dry, I also was able to cook my breakfast under a tarp. I felt pretty cool using my stove in the rain under a protective roof. I remember doing that in a tent once and worrying about setting the vestibule on fire the whole time the stove was on. There was plenty of room to use my stove safely under the tarp.
The biggest problem I have found with the hammock: I like to get up at first light and go kayaking before the wind picks up. It is harder to crawl out of that comfy hammock that early in the morning than it is from an uncomfortable bed on the ground.
I would not have been able to accomplish my transition from tent to hammock without all the help from the generous people on this forum. Thank you so much everybody.
My hammock is a Bear Mountain Bridge Hammock from Jack’s R Better. The tarp is a Hard Rock winter tarp 11’ from Arrowhead Equipment. The trip was at Waldo Lake, Oregon.

Thanks again,
Erin
