Experimenting with GossamerGear hammock pad

Yeah, my top bag is a side-zip . . . so doing the typical Helen2Wheels thing (like you described) won't work here.

In the summer, I can pretty much pack everything in my 2 relatively cramped panniers without a top bag at all.. But when I need to start bringing extra clothes for layering . . . my sleep system goes into the top bag.

I'll have to play around with this some.

And I'll see how the cooler temps feel with the GG pad under my normal setup (big agnes insulated pad and big agnes bag).

Whats the temperatures you been in it so far?

And can you link me to where you bought it?

Does it come with the slits or did you add that yourself?


If so whats the measurement's for each on.

I haven't tested this setup yet. But wearing just gym shorts and a t-shirt, I can do down to the low 50's with just my bag, my pad, and my normal gear in the pockets of my Clark. So I'm thinking the GG pad will take me down to the low 40's without any extra clothing. But we'll see.

It's a GossamerGear Thinlight pad. The one in my pictures is the Wide 1/4" size (41" x 61" x 1/4").
I put the triangular cuts in the pad on my own.

This covers from my neck to my knees . . . maybe a little more.

Geez for $9 you can't go wrong. I've got a blue pad from Wally World. Was thinking of cutting it in half and using them width wise but this seems better.

consider keeping them the same size at the edge and then just making them deeper/more acute, maybe even narrower at the edge and more acute would work bette, but that would require another pad. you're right though, deeper will work better. i settled on 2 cuts per side, but don't sleep on a pad anymore.
