Getting ready to gear up for myself a few young-uns to do some hammock camping - I have made my mind up on my hammock, but can anyone recommend hammocks for an 8 and 11 year old? Need bug protection for sure. Also curious how to keep the mosquitos from biting you through the bottom of the hammock - too hot in the summer for an underquilt I think - any suggestions?

Grand trunks from Amazon would be great for kids. Tied in with one of HF's vendor stand alone bug nets (Wilderness Logics, Warbonnet, or Arrowhead Equipment) you have a decently priced solution.
As for biting through the bottom, I tend to have double layers and for my others I still use UQs.

I find that if it gets below 70, you can get pretty chilled in a hammock. But you can go with closed cell pads vs an uq.
I also think that this hammock has a lot of bang for the buck if your looking for bug protection. Also, you can think about spraying the hammock with permethrin for keeping the bugs away too.

Greetings. Just finished three days in 95+ north Florida heat. even at 70 - 75 degrees at night with a breeze you can get chilled. Had great success avoiding the condor sized Florida mosquitos using the GT Skeeter Beeter that was suggested. Just used a light fleece instead of a UQ. Just enough insulation and some relief from "bite throughs" from the bottom.

Also try treating your hammocks and camping clothes with Permethrin. Will not hurt your hammock materail like DEET will.
I use a Black Bird double as it comes with built in bug net and the double layers keeps the skeeters from biting thru the fabric plus I treat it with permethrin.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
