    Big Guy Hanging????

Hello all. I am getting a HH EXP Deluxe Zip. On there site it states that the weight limit is 300 pounds. I am 5' 9" and currently weigh 245. I was wondering if this is too close to the weight rating on this hammock for me to use it. I dont want to break my new hammock because I am to heavy.

So, what does everyone think? Do you think I will be ok weight wise. I would like to hear from other hangers and fellow large hangers on this topic if possible. Appreciate it. Thanks.

You should be fine! If you were like, 298lbs then you might reconsider.

Thanks. Nope I only weigh 245 and actually I am working on losing weight. I usually level out at 240 but wanna weigh less. Appreciate it.

You should be just fine. The weight ratings will already have a safety factor built-in, so as long as you're under the published rating you're in good shape. Just don't try to use it as a trampoline.

I'm 5'6" and about 200lbs...so a bit smaller than you...but I think you'll be very happy with your gear choices so far. The HH ED is a great hammock, the hex tarp is pretty much bombproof when it comes to dealing with the weather, and going with the side zip option will make it easier for you to adjust a UQ if you get one. Not to mention the ability to reach in/out of the hammock at will to get stuff...something you don't realize is important until you're in a bottom entry only version.

I see you're in NE...I might be hosting a Kansas City area hang sometime early winter...would be nice to meet you!

Thanks Owl appreciate the information. Nice to see another person here from the Midwest. I got 96" tree hugger straps as we have a lot of Cottonwoods here in Nebraska and some of those suckers are enormous. Nothing like a Redwood but I figure at least this large a strap would allow me to hang to any tree in this part of the country. Figure I would just wrap it around as many times as I needed.

Kansas area hang would be cool. Let me know if you do and I will see if I can make it down. Thanks for the offer. And thank you to everyone on these forums for your comments. They are really helpful.

I'm 6'4 and 280 with the same setup and it's held me like a baby.

I too am a large farm animal... 5'11" 265, and own two HH's... one is the survivor which has the appropriate weight limit and another is the UL Backpacker which technically is only good to 200... and I've spent about 20 nights in it. Its bottom material is actually the same as the bottom material in my Survivor?

I had another thread on "what actually determines the weight limit" and too many folks thought I was trying to uncover the hennessy hammock "special sauce" so I didn't get much in the way of useful information.
