    DIY poncho liner UQ

Ok I haven't done a step by step with pictures so I will follow thru and slowdown and take pics as I go.

Here I have it laid out and the stagger set

Here the middle is set and a tailors chalk is used to mark the cut

Here shows the 2 3/4" to 3" difference in top and bottom layers

I'll post pics of the two halves when I get the edging stripped off and the halves cut to size and the IX.

I got it from DIY Gear Supply. They seem pretty reasonable, I needed some cord locks and other items and they are always fair on their shipping. I ultimately will build a Climashield UQ so every time I order something I get some ripstop or something for it. I have a son and grandson that are getting back into fishing and hiking so it is all part of learning and practice for the one I will keep. It was been fun but at times you get to where you could just toss it all in the can. It seems that the tension on the presser foot can make your life miserable or a dream. But I have learned a lot and when it all goes well a lot of fun.

    Looks like mine

I stitched mine together a few weeks ago but did not have time to do any setup before surgery. I am getting around pretty good for the 3rd week after total hip replacement. I will drag it out tomorrow for photos, if the Daemons at the PT clinic let me go soon enough.

I also did a top quilt folded the other way along with a piece of 7' x 5' heavy fleece to use as a liner.

    Photos to follow.

Pay attention and do what the PT tells you! At 3 weeks you have a ways to go. BTDT, 1 down, 1 to go. ;-)

The IX looks interesting. I'm waiting for test results. ;-)

I am considering trying a poncho liner as well until I can get together the stuff for down quilts. Thanks for thinking of us and taking shots as you go.
    - Barnes- Hope your recovery is going well.

    Ok here we go again: The inside section is 39 3/4" x 59" The outside is 42 3/4" x 59". That is a 3" difference, I think 2 1/2' would be fine.

I sewed the IX to the smaller section and moved off the edge 1". Less fabric to sew thru, just less problems.

After sewing the 2 layers of IX to the smaller side, I sewed the outside to the inside layer. I then folder the liner in half and wrapped each IX layer around the smaller side, left some extra for loft. I did the same to the second layer, cut and pined it and sewed them to the inside liner. The sewed the outer side to the inner.

I trimmed the whole thing to square it up it is cut back to a little over 58". I will trim it out tonight if I get time.

Ok the ends are done. I reuse the edging from the poncho liner on the ends, it is already creased and is lighter than grosgrain. I sew one end down and just pull from the other end. You have to work it a little to get it all even, but then again it didn't cost 180.00. I sew a loop of paracord minus the inner cord to the UQ to keep from losing the cord lock. I will use new 1.9 oz for the suspension channels. I will have pics or that and the 2.2 zing-it suspension.

Good luck! I took the easy, wimpy route and did the no sew version. Made 3, and that is what we used for our first year of hammocking. They worked great, and as weather changed we could add to it or subtract from it as needed. Now with proper UQs, we can use the PLUQs as a TQs or over covers if need be....or extra UQ for friends. I know they're an item that I won't be getting rid of. They're just too versatile.
