So I've been lurking for a while, but I guess I should really come out of the woods already...
I'm an expat Swede living in Austria. I found out about hammocks for camping through advrider, and since it seemed awesome I never even bought a tent.
I've gone through a DD Hammock, which I bought to test things out, and now have a WBBB 1.1 dbl (thanks darling, a most excellent x-mas gift!).
I use my hammock for when I'm riding far and away, and when I go fishing. In Sweden, you are allowed to wildcamp pretty much anywhere that isn't a plot, including making fires, so this is where I tend to hang.
Here's my original set-up on a camping trip in northern Ontario (gf is Canadian):
Kinda hard to see, but it's just a DD hammock, with their large tarp (4x3 m), and just a cheap-o foam pad for insulation. A two-nighter, I was pin-pointed by a storm that put the camp ground under more than 10 cm of water on the second night.. I sure was happy to be elevated when I saw the stream come in under the tarp...
This is my current set-up:
On a four-night fishing trip to the mid of Sweden. As you see, I got lucky and found a camp site with a shelter, so no need to deploy the tarp. The uq is a snugpak that I also got from DD - I decided also there that I wanted to try the concept out before getting some good (expensive) stuff. I like it so much that I find this to be perfectly fine actually. Held me warm and snug down to single digits (probably below 5 that night), and at present that's about as cold as I'd like to go anyway..
And just to finish off, this is from the same trip but a different location - the view:
Same direction, spot the moose:
Hi all!
