Has anyone used two of these, one inside the other? (Adventure Medical Kits - Escape Bivvy)http://www.adventuremedicalkits.com/...anuary%202012!
Figure at 8.5 oz each = 1 lbs 1oz for sub 40s and $80 may be a good idea??

Good for a emergency. If used for a insulation layer you will wake up with horrible condesation.

That is not supposed to be the case with this model. Several of the reviews confirm that it does very well on the condensation side of the issue. It is also marketed as a sustainable stand alone sleeping bag down to 50 +/-
That may be what they say. It's a spun polyester with not that reflective of a surface. So it may breath alright but is flimsy and both Mors I felt on a recent course not worth the cost to benfit recevid.
It's intended for emergency use and not daily use for a extended period.

I have a sil-nylon bivy by assent, it's junk! I don't know if it's the same as this one but if you sleep at all, you wake up feeling like a used tea bag. I got it new at a trade show, paid way to much and used it for about three hours in total. I keep it in my BOB but given the choice I'd sleep in a drum liner first.
Carpe noctem!!
Thanks for y'alls educated options. Based on the many reviews and since no one on here has actually used these for them self in a hammock... I am going to buy a couple and give it a try. I will have to wait until my next trip to NM or mid winter at home to give it a real test. Mid winter here is about 35* - 45* on our coldest nights and humid to the point of dense fog. So it should be a good testing environment.
Let us know how it goes! I have always wanted a good bivi bag.

I've got one. I have used it as a light sleeping bag with no problems with condensation at all. The plan is to use it as a supplemental bivvy with my light weight bag if the temperature drops. I have not been able to test it out yet. So far it has been way too warm to think about using it.
This is another tread that has some more info in the SOL Escape.

Here are a couple reviews of others that got me thinking. They are "ground dwellers" so take it for what is worth LOL

I used one in my GT Traveller at about 50, with hiking pants, hat, socks, and light fleece shirt, no bottom insulation under - a little too cold. No condensation though. The next night was close to 60 and I slept atop a fleece bag and stayed warm.
I thought it was successful.
