If the pad your talking about Miguel is "egg-crated" i use the same one. It is a nice pad. it also clings to the fabric of my SB pro so I don't have any problems with it sliding down while sleeping. It's about $12 versus the $8 of the blue pad. However I don't think it's CCF but is still very dense and rolls up the same as the blue pad.

Update: bought the 12 dollar egg crate pad. I'll probably use it till I find the time to make an underquilt.

Found some cheap tarps at wally world too, but I'm waiting to see if we actually go to buy one.

If we do go, it'll be walmartastic. I doubt we'll be able to make it up there... too much to do in too little time.

    There's always next year!

    Thanks for the help!

(And I'll most likely be buying that hex tarp... looks like a good deal, and I'd rather not do the work to make my own just to save 10-20 bucks. Thanks for the link!)

I have some 6 (or 8) mil plastic sheeting. I was going to try and make a tarp out of this. You have me curious...what are ghost tie-outs? I was going try and sew some tie outs, but I saw this and it make me curious.

I think it means putting pebbles or small rocks in the tarp and tying them off like a kleenex ghost?????

In one of the older Boy Scout field guides, they suggest re-enforcing a plastic sheeting tent with 1/2-inch filament tape applied to the underside. They show the tape applied to form a 4x4 grid and also on the diagonals.

How much would that affect the weight? Is the filament tape lighter or stronger than duct tape?
