    Small World

I did a volunteer weed (and feral cattle) killing weekend. Very small group. One of the other people saw the hennessy label on my hammock's bag, and it turns out he was hennessy's college roomie. While everyone else tented in the pasture with the cow pies, I found a dang nice scenic camp spot on top of a knoll above where Kehena Ditch crosses Pololu Stream. (Too dry for the stream and waterfall to run, tho)Fortunately none of the feral bulls visited me last night, just the crickets. Sweet

How about that. I wonder if Tom was thinking & talking about hammocks back then?

Pretty cool being high, dry & in comfortable style while everyone else is trying to sleep on the ground, huh?
I think that's converted more than one... seeing how happy a hammocker is in the morning<G>.

I think I remember a story about when Tom was in college his roommate borrowed his Army jungle hammock and never returned it. So he started tinkering around trying to make a duplicate. Maybe it was that college roommate.

There was a Jim Hennessy up at MAHHA. I think he said he's Tom's brother (am I right about that?).

I told him what a great idea it is to have zippers on the bugnetting...

I don't know why Tom has been so resistant to that. But personally, I'd prefer to continue letting our members here do the mods...

I don't think this was the guy who nicked the hammock, because he didn't particularly care for them. Nobody else on the trip was really interested in hammocks - there's a learning curve to making it comfortable - but there sure was nowhere you could put up a tent out there in a sweet spot like I found. There was no flat ground at all above the pasture area. I gave tours of my spot the next morning.

I still have some problems to fix with my hammock gear and technique. Need some sort of underquilt for my back area which gets too cold, better knots, more practice with finding good tie-off angles, etc. Nevertheless, I'm making progress and enjoy the freedom in selecting sites. Oddly enough, I've had only exceptional (not just good, but unusually wonderful) weather every time I've hammocked.
