I find that if my hammock is too low to the ground, I have a heck of a time pulling myself up. I like my hammock high enough that when I sit in it my feet are on the ground and it is easy to get up. At that height though, if my hammock has a malfunction, the drop will be painful. So, I have to make sure it is hung correctly.

My first thought, it sounds like an extream case of the shoulder squeez. My second thought and advice, hang the suspension higher and try to find that perfect 30..

I know Shug has shown us various ways to ENTER our hammoks; don't believe he has covered the EXIT yet.....
On a somewhat serious note, I grab hold of the side and ridgeline to to swing my legs out while bunching the material under my legs - kind of creating a chair. Then I just stand up.
Any exit I'm walking away from is good with me.

Well, I guess it is just practice, practice ,practice. Meanwhile my wife is getting some good entertainment and a good laugh.

Thanks all, I guess its just a mater of technique.

P.S. I have a portable stand that I built to use when car camping and no trees are available, like in the desert, and some of the techniques wont work cause the stand will tip over if too much side force is applied. But that's another story.

I tried doing the ends of the hammock in several different ways as seen on HF's but it is always the same. Very comfortable to rest in, but when it is time to get out I'm stuck.

Is it just me? Any thoughts would be appreciated. :confused

The first thing to check is how you finished the ends of the hammock. If you pulled the side edges of hammock out too much past the center of hammock it will create a "bathtub" effect. This will make it harder to get out like you describe. If the sides of hammock are well above the center when unoccupied this could be the problem.

If this is not the problem refer to all the post above

    I've done this several times.

I was so low that I had to put my feet on the ground and walk the hammock back to a height I could stand up from.
