Help! How do I get out?

First, let me say I am a total Noob and an old one to boot. I just made a 60" x 120" gathered hammock and find once I get in, I cant get out. The sides are to tall. Is there some trick to getting out that I haven't discovered or is it just that I am old and out of shape?

I have a 36"wide hammock and I can negotiate that one easy as there is no high sides but not real comfy for a long sleep. I wanted the wider hammock so I could possibly use it camping to sleep in.

I tried doing the ends of the hammock in several different ways as seen on HF's but it is always the same. Very comfortable to rest in, but when it is time to get out I'm stuck.

Is it just me? Any thoughts would be appreciated. :confused

Scoot to one side and then swing your legs over and out?

what he said -- plus try grabbing the side of the material to pull yourself up.

try to rotate your body perpendicular to the hammock before you attempt to get out. Also try changing the amount of sag you use when you hang the hammock, sometimes a looser or tighter hang can make it easier to navigate.

You can throw one leg over each side and sit up. Then reach forward and grab the hammock sides and pull yourself into a standing position by walking your grip forward.

Throw your legs over the side, put your feet on the ground and sit up. Then, WALK BACKWARDS so that your hammock "spills" you out toward the ground. Then stand up.

+1 to what everyone has said already but I want to ++1 what Mustardman said about sag. Make sure you have a 30° angle to start and see how the sides behave with even more or less angle. Play with it a bit.
