    Not BT exactly

This is Bigturtles wife I was reading this and had a question, what is car camping? Bigturtle goes to hangs with his hammock and stuff. How is this different from hammock camping?

    Thanks

    Hi BT's wife
this is the same as BT is used too, we hang in our hammocks, but in this case the hang site is only about 200 yards from where you park your car, so slightly heavier gear and certainly better food is usually the norm... at least it was last year

yup - car camping (where the car carries your gear to the campsite) as opposed to backpacking (where you carry everything a longer ways from the parking area)

As the others have said..."car camping" is when you camp within easy walking distance of your vehicle. This allows you to potentially carry in food/gear/etc... that you wouldn't normally want to hike several miles with.

Last year, Walking Bear demonstrated this particularly well...showing up with a wheelbarrow load of firewood for us to use as well as bringing plenty of food in a cooler chest that you'd normally not see when you're forced to carry everything several miles in.

Out where we're doing this hang, the road is probably about 300 yards away...so not too difficult to make multiple trips to carry in more gear than usual.

There should be plenty of trees. Many in the mowed and groomed grounds that can be used. I you move back in to the woods there are lots more. Last year I set up in the woods. I did that because of the expected wind. The woods provided some buffer and it was a little more on the lee side of the hill. I had no problem with the wind, were as some in the open experienced more wind at night.
Correction I did have some problem with the wind, it blew my lawn chair and pad into the camp fire. Both did not fair to well.

There are plenty of trees, and tons of space to hang. There's no shortage of decent hang spots here, trust me.

Seriously, there's about 4.5 miles of trail we could hang anywhere along if we wanted to, but even just at the trailhead near the parking lot there's plenty of good spots.

    Come on out!

So, we're getting closer! Only about two months out now. Hoping to meet a few new folks, and reunite with a few others I've got to hang with before.

I'm tempted to contact a couple of vendors to see if we could setup a raffle for a prize or two...will keep ya'll posted if it looks like it might get that organized.
