Probably not gonna make points with the purists here, but.....

I can't tie a knot to save my soul. I got some straps and rings and was unimpressed to say the least (you could say "let down").

I said to heck with it and bought a new set of Ancra motorcycle tie-down straps (the good red ones), cut the hooks off of them and put biners on in their place. They work great! Fast, infinitely adjustable, and I usually have a set with me on the bike anyway. They pull double duty tieing all my kit down.

Yeah, they are heavier than straps and rings, but that doesn't bother me in the least. I've been using Ancras for years and have never noticed anything other than fading in the sunlight if left out for long periods.

    Just thought I'd share.

Long as you're not carrying them, the weight doesn't matter. And you actually save bulk if it's multi-use...glad you found the kit that works for you.

Cool thing about the people here at hammockforums.net are there are no "purist". Multiple ways, best hammocks, tarps, suspensions... Whatever works for you is what's important.

My knot tying is also limited. Just a few knots used on a regular basis only. Always looking for a better hitch, bend.

you dont need knots, use ring buckle system for hammocks, fiqure 9 for tarp.
you dont need to be knot savy,i mainly have only used one knot, the figure 8 loop knot on the hennessey hammock bagneo

    Bender,

    Knots aren't difficult.
    C'mon, man.

At NCN '08, I'll show you whatever setup I decide to bring. It'll either be the JRB tri-glides and straps, cinch buckles and straps, or my stock Clark rope.

All 3 solutions are super, super easy. If I wasn't planning on traveling on the bike for 7 days prior to showing up at NCN . . . I'd just bring all 3 with me, just for you.

I'm glad you found something that works for you, Bender

Now,as a knot nerd, I must implore you to learn at least a few knots...just think of all the shoe options you'll have when you move past Velcro!!!! JK

I'm very excited to start taking so longer motorcycle rides with my wife next year. (She's only started riding with me) I may be flying down to Texas and picking up a new touring bike and riding it back to Oregon. We'll see what things look like in a few months. Motorcycles and hammocks are an awesome combination!!

I havent worn shoes I have to tie (except hiking boots) for years!!!

There's really only a few basic knots that are absolutely essential; square, figure 8, bowline, sheetbend, blood knot (fishermans knot, I think they are the same). Thats it. I am sort of a knot nerd as well, and have a book with literally 100 some odd knots in it. Will I tie most of them? Nope. But, its fun to play around with when bored!!
