OES Maccat standard vs WL Big Daddy

    Hi folks,

Im new to hammocking and would like advice. Can anyone make a comparison between the OES Maccat standard and the Wilderness Logics Big Daddy? The are similar in price and seem like quality made tarps. Also, since I dont need a tarp instantly, do either of these companies run sales, perhaps at the end of the year, or will prices just go up?

    Thanks.

Prices have settled for the most part and don't tend to jump much. Both will most likely need sealing (you can pay OES for it). Wilderness Logics sometimes has monthly deals here and there in regards to tarps. The biggest difference if I am correct is a size difference - the OES would be smaller than the Big Daddy.

Not to take away from either of these vendors (great vendors both) but warbonnet has a sale on their Superfly and Mambajamba (which is similar to these two). Something to check out possibly.

I think you are comparing apples & oranges size wise. The MacCat Standard and WL Big Daddy are very different in size. I have owned several MacCat tarps in the past, and currently own two WL tarps. Both brands are very well made & excellent tarps. For size comparison, it would be better to compare the MaCat Deluxe @ 130 X 104, and the WL Big Daddy @ 132 X 115. The MacCat Standard @ 125 X 84 would compare better to the WL Tadpole @ 132 X 92.
You really can't go wrong with any of the popular vendor's tarps. Just make sure you are comparing similar sizes & prices. I will say that if you order a WL tarp, you will get it pretty fast.

which would you prefer for hiking? I typically do 2-7 day trips with about 15 miles a day. Ideally i think the coverage and room would be nice, but if i were only to buy one would think the Standard would be the one i use the most (due to weather and weight). I just wonder if the Standard would keep me and my gear plenty dry in some the heavy storms.

    Any thoughts?
