9:22 PM Today Josh and I broke from the rest at Cooperstown and entered the Catskill mountains to hike some of Devils Path. We arrived at devils tombstone, a public campground run by New York conversation service, and set up camp. I have never been to this area so a stay at a campground felt like a good choice. i had been told the campground was not hammock friendly but foun plenty of sites suitable.

We got our bearings and set off to follow Devils Path to the summit of Mt. Hunter. The trail as a whole, a 28 mile end to end trail, climbs over many summits and was described to me as somewhat difficult but very doable. I decided to camp between Hunter and Plateau mountains. This would give us two full days of hikikg.
Gps elevation at camp is 2004. Hunter mountain comes in at over 4000 and the trail is covered with bolters the size of bowling balls to cars. This is by far the most difficult trail I have been on.

The weather forcast was for rain and it did not disapoint. It started to rain about 10 minutes before our decision to head down. Rain was constant during our treck back to camp. We would cut short our summit atempt.
Back at camp, we took a nap to wait out the rain. I sleep hard for about 2 hours. The rain had ended so dinner was prepared. Josh had chili mac, a dehydrated meal by Mountain House which he prepared himself on the alcohol stove I made him. We again scrambled to our tent and hammock to wait out another rain storm.

Evening brought a cool breeze without precipitation. The ranger stoped by to remind us of safe food storage as he had just seen a small black bear in the campground. We moved all food stuffs to the SUV. as darkness set upon us we retired for the night. Me to write this journal and Josh to read on his phone.
After breakfast we made the summit of Plateau mountain a 1700 ft. climb.
