My neighbor landed a sweet gig leading scout troops into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico. He's been up there since early June, taking troops in for 5 to 9 day treks with returns to base of one or two days.
He sent me an email on 11 June that the previous weeks had been ultra wet and max winds. He reported a 'horrendous sleeping-on-the-ground' experience due to the weather and the fact that we are not kids anymore and haven't been for several decades now. Having seen my setup before he went north, he ordered one for himself (went with a Hennessy). It helped also that he'd been to a hammock get together in Ely on 10 June.
He received his hammock and 'started living comfy'; parked his tent and sb and to date has spent 22 nights off the ground.
His only comment was that his next addition will be a tarp with storm doors, but we can welcome another happy camper to the elevated status!!!
He'll be back next week, and I head up end of Sept! We may do some Florida forest camping in the interim.
